Elsewhere was a "living museum" and artist residency founded in 2003 in a three-story former military surplus, furniture, and later thrift store in downtown Greensboro, North Carolina. All materials found in the building, accumulated through most of the 20th century, were maintained as Elsewhere's "collection," which were repurposed for artist installations and other projects in the building. Among its central rules, Elsewhere attempted to uphold a closed system in which nothing from the "collection" would be removed from the building, nor would any outside items be added to it. All artists and staff were required to agree to these guidelines.
Elsewhere's Agreement, Release, and Contract are a set of forms to be signed by artists upon their admission to the organization's residency or internship programs.
These include the Participant Contract with an Artwork + Objects Contract of Rights and Ownership, the Participant Agreement, the Payment Agreement with a Cancellation Policy and Deferral Policy, the Liability Release, the Media Release, the Equipment Loan Agreement, the Equity Agreement and Community Guidelines, and the Liability Waiver and Hold Harmless Agreement for a neighboring maker-space called The Forge.
The donated copy of these documents were signed by Zach Whitworth on December 8, 2019, prior to living and working as the Programs Intern at Elsewhere from January 30 to June 30, 2020.
