Informed Consent and Trauma Aware Tattooing: Practical Guidelines for Artists This resource, written by Tamara Santibañez in collaboration with the Women’s Prison Association, was developed in response to the needs of clients who are trauma-impacted or survivors of violence. The guide describes ways to integrate informed consent into the tattooing process, practical ways to be mindful of boundaries and communication, and tips for active listening.

Tamara Santibañez is a multimedia artist living and working in Brooklyn. Their work is rooted in subcultural semiotics, exploring the meanings we assign to materials and accessories. Enlisting inanimate objects as stand-ins for human figures and relationships, Santibañez emphasizes the undulating exchange between power and vulnerability, otherness and assimilation, generational expectations and individual capability. They are the founder of Discipline Press.
