Biographical Notes
East of Borneo was founded in 2010 by Stacey Allan and Thomas Lawson. It documents contemporary art and its history as considered from Los Angeles. It is partially funded by the California Institute of the Arts. Since 2012, it has also produced print publications under East of Borneo Books. The name derives from George Melford's 1931 film East of Borneo, in which a woman searches for her husband in the jungles of an island just east of Borneo.
