bar-fund and Community Funded Artist Grant Meeting

Dear Los Angeles Arts Community Member,

We would like to invite you to an open discussion regarding bar-fund and community funded artist grants.

Over the last ten years, the number of artists living in Los Angeles has increased significantly alongside the cost of living. However, there has not been an equal or significant increase in funding for individual artists. bar-fund is an attempt to create a horizontal grant building initiative that involves our local community and is offered as an alternative to the top-down approach of most artist grant infrastructures. It is intended to create/produce/fund a local artist grant through the accumulation of tips at the bars of LA-based art openings and events.

Initiated by Tatiana Vahan, an accumulation of $2,000 in tips has been collected by the artist from openings at

François Ghebaly Gallery,
Fahrenheit,
356 Mission Road,
CommonWealth and Council
Human Resources,
Los Angeles Contemporary Archive (LACA)

Presented at LACA by Tatiana Vahan, this open discussion will use bar-fund as a starting point for a larger conversation on the possibilities of generating alternative funding for individual artists in Los Angeles. This meeting is to collectively discuss the first grant cycle of bar-fund and to brainstorm how artists can collectively create our own financial support system.

Please feel free to share with those whom may be interested.

Starts at 7:30 PM at LACA.
